Wrestling star set to represent India in the Commonwealth Games 2018
Indian star wrestlers Sushil Kumar, Shakshi Malik and Babaita Phogat passed the selection trails to qualify for participating in the commonwealth games 2018. The others to have qualified for the two tournaments are Vinesh Phogat (50 kg), Pooja Dhanda (57Kg), Divya Karan (68Kg) and Kiran (76Kg).
Former world champion Shushil Kumar, two-time Olympic Gold medallist, in 2010 in New Delhi and 2014 in Glasgow, will now be representing India in the Commonwealth Games 2018, to be held at Gold Coast, Australia, in April. Sushil, who returned to the international arena after three years with a Commonwealth Championships gold, won all his bouts in the 74kg category. Sushil Kumar beat Jitender Kumar 4-3 in the final qualification round for 74kg category trails conducted for selection of India’s wrestling representatives for the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the KD Jadhav Stadium in New Delhi. He returned in action at the National championships last month, and had recently won gold at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Johannesburg.
Unfortunately ugly incident occurred after selection trials for the commonwealth games 2018, the supports of both the wrestlers blows to each other.
The Olympic bronze medallist, Shakshi Malik was on December 30, 2018, named in the Indian women’s wrestling team for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia after a selection trail held here. The selection trial was held in six weight categories at the Sports Authority of India Training Center here. She booked their berths for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the category of 62 Kg. Sakshi Malik, born 3 September 1992 at Rohtak, Haryana is an Indian freestyle wrestler. She won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category in Olympics 2016 and silver medal at the 2014 commonwealth games in Glasgow. She is currently employed with Indian Railways in the commercial department of its Delhi division, in the Norththern Railways Zone.
An Indian female wrestler, Babita Kumari Phogat is born November 20, 1989. She is a Gold medallist of Commonwealth Games 2014. She also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010 and a bronze medal at the World Wretling Championships 2012. Babita;s sister Geeta Phogat is a freestyle wrestler who won India’s first ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
The another Phogat sister, Vinesh Phogat, is a cousin sister of freestyle Indian women wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari Phogat, comes from a successful wrestling background. Vinesh Phogat is the another Gold Medallist of Commonwealth Games 2014 in her category (48 Kg). Vinesh won Bronze medals in Asian Games 2014 and Asian Wrestling Championships 2013.
Pooja Dhanda is an Indian women wrestler who participated at the Summer Youth Olympics 2010 in Singapore. She won the silver medal in the 60 Kg event. She defeated the real-life Dangal girl Geeta in a keenly-contested selection trial in Lucknow on Saturday to qualify for the Commonwealth Games 2018
The another women wrestler who qualify for Commonwealth Games 2018, to be held at Gold Coast, Australia, in April are Divya Karan in 68Kg and Kiran in 76Kg Category.
